Safe Zone in Playa Sur Mazatlán

Playa Sur is located just beside Mazatlán’s “red zone,” near the heart of the city. Often referred to as “Sin City,” this area is known as a center for prostitution, drugs, and human trafficking. Yet, right in the middle of this darkness, God is bringing hope.

Meet Mauricio and Gris Marrón. They pastor a church located within one of Mazatlán’s historic buildings, serving faithfully in the heart of the community. Mauricio, an accomplished musician, uses his gifts to invest in the next generation, offering free music lessons to children in some of the city’s most impoverished schools.

Music has become an important part of the Safe Zone program in Playa Sur, creating a safe place where children can learn, grow, and experience the hope of Christ. Through the faithful work of Mauricio, Gris, and their church, God is using Safe Zone to reach Playa Sur—one neighborhood at a time.

Safe Zone on Stone Island Mazatlán

Stone Island is a community marked by deep poverty, located just across the shipping channel from Mazatlán. Every day, thousands of tourists visit its beautiful beaches, often unaware of the difficult realities faced by the families who call the island home.

Meet Efraín and Amanda Reina. Six years ago, they moved to Stone Island and began pastoring a church in the community. Ministry here can often feel like an uphill battle, as poverty, limited access to education, and the influence of the drug cartel shape much of daily life.

But in the midst of these challenges, Safe Zone is becoming a beacon of hope for the island’s youngest residents. It is creating a safe place where children can learn, grow, and hear about the hope of Christ. And the impact is reaching beyond the children themselves—Safe Zone is bringing the community together as more volunteers step forward and join the effort to serve the next generation.

God is using His church to bring hope to Stone Island, one neighborhood at a time.
